REDLAND residents have two weeks to have their say on how they want the state to repay $30 million a year savings made after the carbon tax was abolished from public transport.
Transport Minister Scott Emerson said the public could decide whether to pay five per cent less for buses, trains and ferries or have about 1000 more services across the state.
On the weekend, Premier Campbell Newman promised to keep public transport fare increases to the consumer price index or lower. Bus and train fares will rise 2.5 per cent this year as opposed to the 7.5 per cent increases of the past two years. Fares in SEQ TransLink network increased 7.5 per cent in January 2013, on top of the previous 65 per cent over four years.
The online survey closes at midnight Sunday, September 14 on the TransLink website . or call on 13 12 30.
Cleveland MP Mark Robinson said if Cleveland residents chose a reduction in fares, a regular week day passenger travelling from Brisbane to Cleveland could save $178.20 a year.
