What a start to the round.
All Redlands teams batted last Saturday and despite some much-needed rain during the week, club groundsman John McFarlane was able to produce some great wickets with enough in them for batsmen and bowlers.
Three Redlands players scored centuries, with one of them going on to be 150 not out.
The Hoppy's Car Wash Players of the Week are Jake Richards 150 not out, Adam Boon 125 and Tim Jarrett 121.
All players are to be congratulated on the way they played at the weekend under very hot and, at times, windy conditions.
Redlands 1st grade piled on the runs at home on the Peter Burge Oval with Marnus Labuschagne 53 and James Peirson 81 setting the platform with some patient batting and then Simon Milenko 69 and Ryan LeLoux 49 combined to set Sunshine Coast a big score to chase next Saturday.
Second grade had the game in hand as they had Sunshine Coast 7/75 but the last few batsmen were hard to dismiss and they finished on 175. Unfortunately, Redlands lost wickets towards the end of the day and were 5/106. They will need to bat well on Saturday to take first innings points.
The 3rd grade team put on 181, thanks to Ben Cole 35 and Trent Conwell 34 and will rely on their bowlers to take control of the game on Saturday.
Fourth grade were in deep trouble at 4/45 as they lost early wickets but Tim Jarrett's century helped them to post a respectable total. Andrew Barrie scored 33 towards the end and the Tigers boys will need to bowl well to stop Wests from taking the points.
Fifth grade were the team of the week, with two players scoring centuries at Dunlop Stadium. Jake Richard 150 not out and Adam Boon 125 ignored the hot conditions and went about carving up the Wests bowlers. Again, Tigers will rely on their bowlers to bring home the points on Saturday.
The 6th grade number 2 team put on 220, with Daniel Mathieson 67 and James Catlow-Elliott 50 helping Redlands to put on a reasonable score. They have the opposition two wickets down at the end of play.
Sixth grade number 1 played on Sunday and bowled well to dismiss Norths for 215, with Josh Thompson taking four wickets and James Cullen three. Redlands were 2/77 at the close of play on day one.
Each weekend three grade teams play at home at the club's grounds at Birkdale Road, Wellington. Spectators are welcome and full canteen facilities are available.
