The group, headed by Ormiston's Judy Rose, proposed to buy four lots of land from Redland-based developer Fiteni Homes, in a bid to save the trees.
However, Fiteni land development manager Adam Souter wrote to the group and said his company could not accept the offer as the trees posed a danger to homeowners and the public.
Fiteni Homes, which wants to bulldoze the trees to make way for a 24-lot housing estate, has promised to donate 4878sq m of nearby foreshore land for a public park.
Calls to Fiteni were not returned.
Ms Rose said if the residents were allowed to buy the land, they would fence off the area with the trees as a reserve to ensure everyone was safe.
She also asked Bowman MP Andrew Laming to speak with the company and ask they reconsider the sale offer.
Residents pinned clip-on koalas to the fence at the entrance of the Fiteni development in protest.
