Moreton Bay College and Moreton Bay Boys' College swore in their new executive principal James Sloman recently.
Mr Sloman was previously principal of Mansfield State High and responsible for the school's transition from a state school to an independent public school.
He was nominated in the 2014 Queensland College of Teachers' Excellence in Leadership Awards and comes to his new position with tremendous energy and enthusiasm for single-sex schools.
One of his first duties was to induct the senior captains from both colleges into their leadership roles for 2015.
Mr Sloman was raised in rural Queensland as one of eight children and educated in a single-sex school. He knows the benefits of gender differentiated learning having experienced these first-hand. He values the confidence and self-esteem acquired in a single-sex environment, together with the potential for improving academic achievement.
"Guiding two separate school identities, each with their own personality and attributes, is something I am looking forward to. I am enjoying working with staff across Moreton Bay College and Moreton Bay Boys' College to implement best practices, enhance curricular and increase student achievement in both boy and girl-centred learning," Mr Sloman said.
"Our Senior leaders for 2015 are dedicated and community-minded young men and women. I was proud to induct the Senior Captains, from both Colleges, into their leadership roles and congratulate them on this achievement". As one of three International Baccalaureate (IB) World Schools in Brisbane, and the only IB World School on Brisbane's Bayside, MBBC offers academic subjects from the Australian Curriculum within a core framework of international learning. Recent graduates from both Colleges are now heading for careers in International Business, Science, Medicine, Engineering, Design, Architecture and Politics.
