A TEAM of Redland friends and co-workers will participate in the annual Weekend to End Women's Cancers fundraiser event later this year.
The event is a two day, 60km walk to raise vital funds for women's cancer research and clinical trials at the QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute in Brisbane.
The team, called Fit and Full of Wit, comprises 14 women who all work for Redland City Council.
Group leader Amanda Minshull said the they had been raising money for cancer and other charities for some time, but the walk would be their most significant event to date.
She said they had raised money for a co-worker's nephew with leukaemia, held cupcake drives for a boy with a brain injury and donated money to the Daniel Morcombe Foundation.
"We have been doing little fundraisers for 12 months, starting with selling chocolates and now we want to make a big difference," she said.
Amanda said the event was important for the group not only to raise money and awareness about women's cancers, but because each member had been affected by cancer in some way.
"There are several of the participants who have lost family members to cancer," she said.
"Two of the children we raised money for also went through cancer and to see them be so brave and smile every day was what kept us motivated."
She said the women had donated money each year to other teams that participated in the event, but decided this year they would get involved themselves and needed to raise $2000 each to participate.

The Weekend to End Women's Cancers will be held at Teralba Park, Everton Park on October 24.
