The talented clarinet players have been selected to participate in Griffith University’s Conservatorium of Music State Honours Ensemble Program during the holidays, with a three-day intensive rehearsal event to culminate in a public concert at the Conservatorium of Music on Sunday, October 4.
They were selected from 1900 students who applied statewide and will be two of 90 clarinet players who will participate in one of the four wind orchestra ensembles created for the four-day program.
A school spokeswoman said Janice and Natasha had been part of Education Queensland’s Instrumental Music Program since primary school.
“Janice was first introduced to playing the clarinet while attending as a year 3 student at Vienna Woods State School and Natasha was a year 5 student at Hilliard State School when she first became involved in the Instrumental Music Program,” she said.
“The girls are excited about the opportunity to work with other students from around the state and with internationally recognised professionals who will mentor and conduct the students through their rehearsal program.”
Janice said she was keen to improve her ensemble experience and musicianship by building on what she had already learnt.
“The idea of participating in professional rehearsal spaces and then performing in the Conservatorium of Music’s concert hall for the final public performance is so exciting,” she said.
Natasha said while she used music practice to improve her skills, she also recognised playing music was a great way to relax and unwind.
“Alex music is very supportive,” she said.
“I feel I am able to be who I want to be and my teachers always encourage me to be my very best.”
