State MP for Redlands Matt McEachan and Redland City councillor Lance Hewlett decided to table a petition calling on Parliament to fund and staff a police facility near the shopping centre.
Cr Hewlett said a station or a police beat would improve local security, response times to crimes and crime prevention.
He said crime was rising at an alarming rate in the suburb following "exponential growth in residential and other development".
Crimes such as drug offences, vandalism, violence, stealing, break and enters and hooning drove both politicians to table the petition on Monday.
Cr Hewlett said the police beat was an initiative he had worked on with the previous Redlands MP Peter Dowling.
“The then Superintendent of Wynnum District Police Jim Keogh supported the idea of a Police Beat within one of the major shopping complexes at Victoria Point,” Cr Hewlett said.
“Unfortunately, it was hard to secure funding at the time, though a local centre management really supported it.
“At this point in time Cleveland Police, who do a great job, are required to service up to Benfer Road, Victoria Point.”
