The Redlands Volunteer Branch of the Cancer Council Queensland has taken out the title of highest fundraising branch in South East Queensland.
The organisation made the awards to the branch, together with the highest fundraising team and individual on the weekend.
The most talented fundraisers in Queensland are invited to take part in an invite-only campaign allowing them to compete for the rights to name a research grant.
A total of 104 fundraisers, including Redlands Volunteer Branch, accepted the challenge this year, resulting in a fundraising total of around $320,900.
Dell Boyd from the Redlands Volunteer Branch said the win was a credit to the residents of the Redlands who support the fundraising and the volunteers who help.
“We are always amazed at everything that is given to us.
“It makes us feel very humbled,” she said.
Ms Boyd said the branch had raised $53,000 in 2014 and $92,000 in 2015.
Cancer Council Queensland spokesperson Katie Clift said the winners had done the region proud.
“Their hard work will allow us to continue our important work in cancer control, contributing to vital cancer research, education programs and patient support services.”
The top fundraisers for Queensland will be announced on December 10.
Ms Clift thanked everyone who got involved and showed their support through kind words, volunteering or making a donation.
This year, Cancer Council Queensland has raised more than $1.9 million through the collective efforts of its CancerFREE Challenge Hope Ambassadors.
All funds raised support Cancer Council Queensland’s work in cancer research, education programs and patient support services.
