Police have appealed to the owners of trailered vehicles to secure them after a recent increase in thefts across Brisbane, including in Cleveland and Redland Bay.
Offenders were targeting tool trailers, camper trailers, trailered boats and caravans, particularly at night, according to police.
In most cases trailers were secured only by a chain and padlock which had been cut during the theft.
Police urged trailer owners to park them behind locked gates, or inside a closed shed or garage out of site and to avoid parking them in front yards or on the street.
An alternate deterrent is for owners to park the trailer in a corner of a yard and blocking it with a parked vehicle to make it difficult to steal.
Police recommended valuable items be removed from inside trailers or caravans.
Owners were also advised to consider installing a wheel lock device or a locking device over the ball connection of the trailer.
Suburbs affected by recent thefts across Brisbane include Cleveland, Redland Bay, Lota, Coorparoo, Morningside, Carina, Runcorn, Griffin, Holland Park West, Forest Lake, Bray Park, Sunnybank Hills, Rocklea, Aspley, Stafford, Yeerongpilly, Willawong, Brighton, Kallangur and Pine Rivers area.
