Redlands Rugby men’s and women’s teams have progressed into their respective competition semi-finals.
Last Saturday, the women’s team defeated Helensvale 13 – 8 in a closely fought minor semi-final at Ballymore. In a game characterised by team effort, Cheyenne Campbell led by example and scored two tries, with Fenella Hake kicking one penalty.
This Saturday, the Muddies ladies’ team will contest the preliminary final against Wests at Ballymore, 8.35am. Let’s create a sea a red at Ballymore to support our ladies.
While there are two rounds to go, both Muddies’ men’s teams have consolidated their position in the top four.
The Firsts (Barber Cup) team is looking at a top three position and the Seconds (Pegg Cup) is aiming to end the season in top spot. Last Saturday, the Firsts convincingly defeated Redcliffe 43 – 16.
Redcliffe called for uncontested scrums at the beginning of the game and this forced Redlands to change its game plan.
Despite a slow start which allowed Redcliffe to score early points, the Muddies’ defence countered Redcliffe’s strategy of attacking through the centre of the field.
The success of the rolling maul from the lineout combined with the greater freedom allowed by the uncontested scrums resulted in both forwards and backs creating opportunities to move the ball to score seven tries to one and gain a valuable bonus point.
Tries were scored by Aaron Bloom, Dylan Hills (3), Turei Harmer, Jason Rogers and Keanu Wong, with Turei Harmer kicking four conversions.
This Saturday, both senior men’s teams will be at home at Judy Holt Park: the Seconds against the Brisbane Hustlers at 1.40pm and the Firsts against Beenleigh at 3pm.
Redlands at Rio rugby

Sharni and Shannon have been integral members of the Australian Women’s 7s team which is currently number one in the international women’s 7s circuit. The team is intent on winning a medal at the games to show that its top position is well deserved.
