MACLEAY Island real estate agent Terri Barclay is set to ride over 5500 kilometres around Queesland on a motorcycle to put the spotlight on mental health.
Ms Barclary is part of the Black Dog Ride’s Queensland contingent that left from North Brisbane on Monday.
This year’s ride is raising funds for Lifeline’s Online Crisis Support chat service and Mental Health First Aid’s teen program in schools.
Ms Barclay will ride the 5545 kilometres around Queensland on a Triumph Speedmaster.
“I have been riding for two and a half years now and this project is a perfect fit for me, using my love of motorcycles to raise awareness of an illness that touches so many,” she said.
Ms Barclay is no stranger to motorcycle trips, having ridden 5700 kilometres in 10 days in 2014 when dealing with the loss of her teenage godson to depression.
“Cameron was 16 years old,” she said.
“His loss was a terrible blow and the motorbike ride helped me deal with it.
“I now want to use that experience to help raise funds to help others like Cameron manage this dreadful illness,” Ms Barclay said.
Anyone who wants to support the ride can do so via blackdogride.giveeasy.org/campaigns/depression-awareness or visit the Ms Barclay’s real estate office on Macleay Island.
