A NATIONAL remembrance day is being organised for October 15 by Angel Gowns Australia for those who have lost a baby or child for October 15.
Local organiser Vicki Wilson said it would feature a 10am candle memorial service at the Redland Hospital chapel.
“This is a memorial service for the many people who don’t talk about their losses for years,’’ Ms Wilson said.
Angel baby gowns, made from donated wedding dresses, are boxed and presented to parents in hospitals.
The organisation also runs a tutu program which was started because of the large amount of tule left over from wedding dresses.
Volunteers made tutus and gave them to children’s charities and to the parents of children with long term illnesses and special needs.
Ms Wilson said the organisation wanted to break community silence on infant loss.
Angel Gowns Australia Redland coordinator Vicki Wilson said her organisation relied heavily on the community for support through fundraising.
Angel gowns and tutus were delivered around Australia, sometimes urgently after a baby passed away or a child became ill.
The organisation has had a tremendous response. With more than 5000 wedding dresses donated so volunteers cannot accept any more at this stage.
Anyone wanting to attend the memorial service or become involved as a volunteer should call 0423-182882.
