REDLANDS Tigers players enjoyed a successful weekend of cricket, scoring five wins and a draw in the one and two day formats of the game. It was a special weekend for our Women’s 2nd grade team who played their first game and won.
In a great feat for the club four players scored centuries. Stuart Edgar scored 108 runs in second Grade, David Brook a great captain’s knock of 127 in fourth grade, Greg Morton – a super innings of 104 in sixth grade and to cap it off on Sunday Michael Herdman scored 117 runs off 58 balls in the one-day game against Ipswich/Logan.
1st grade lost to University who took first innings points, but the Tigers put up a stronger effort in their second innings scoring 216 for the loss of six wickets. Ryan Leloux top scored with 83 not out, Liam Smith 44 and Michael Herdman 30.
2nd grade also went down to University as they were dismissed for 272 chasing 346 runs. The highlight of this game was the great display of batting from Stuart Edgar who scored a well-deserved 108 runs. He was well supported by Trent Conwell who scored 55 runs and Jamie Ryan 48 not out.
3rd grade fell 33 runs short of victory in their game against University. Chasing 269 runs, the Redlands boys were looking good thanks to Jason Grosvenor who scored 87 and Tim Jarrett 44 but the wheels fell off and the boys were disappointed as the game was theirs for the taking.
4th grade No. 1, who played at home, drew with University as they attempted to chase down 302 runs. Things looked good for the Tigers when their skipper David Brook was at the crease but once he was dismissed for 127 runs, the boys held on strongly for a draw with Jarvis Cleary adding 42 and Jordan Crick 29. Fourth grade No. 2 played Sandgate Redcliffe at Sandgate and found out the hard way that they had not scored enough runs on day one and then struggled to take early wickets as Sandgate/Redcliffe went onto score 252 runs. Mitch Davis took four wickets with Jake Richards and Jacob Apted taking two each.
5th grade, who had bowled out University for 114 runs on day one, took first innings points as Redlands scored 221 with Will Morris scoring 44 and Ben Lockwood 37. University batted again and were 2 for 101 at stumps on day two.
6th grade No. 1 playing at home on Sunday took first innings points which nearly turned into an outright win. Chasing 118 runs, Redlands declared at 3 for 253 with Scott Butters 81, Brandon James 76 and Jacob Bowell 44 not out all contributing valuable runs. University batted again and were all out in their second innings for 159. Redlands were left with two overs in fading light to score 24 runs but were unable to get the required runs for an outright win. Sixth grade No. 2 who it appeared had let West’s off the hook on day one as they scored 223 runs, played well to record a victory. The main run scorer was Greg Morton who scored 104, with valuable support from Zac Dale 58 and Mitchell Jensen 33 not out.
Redlands 1st grade played a one-day game against Ipswich/Logan on Sunday at home and came away convincing winners 5 for 199 to 10/193. Michael Herdman top scored for Redlands with a quick fire 117 runs from 58 balls and Cameron Brimblecombe took three wickets.
Redlands U/16 Taverners lost to University. Redlands were all out for 130 with Jesse Burns 36 and Will Morris 18 the top run scorers. University lost five wickets as they chased down the required runs. Jacob Apted and Matthew Ford both took two wickets.
The big news of the weekend was the first up win by our Women’s 2nd grade team who defeated Sandgate/Redcliffe 174 to 140. Evie Massingham 40 and Kate McDonald 34 top scored and Delyse Laycock – four wickets and Kate McDonald – three wickets, helped Redlands to take the points. Great start for all concerned.
All teams who played at Redlands were very grateful for the great work done by our groundsman John McFarlane and his helpers. John, like our canteen staff, had a big week with four days of games in the U17 National Championships and then games played over the weekend on all three fields.
