Jonathan Biggins’ Australia Day is a dinkum Aussie comedy – taking an irreverent poke at the archetypical Australian character and addressing some of our current social issues.
As Queensland country town Coriole prepares for Australia Day it’s probably time to crack open a tinnie, whack a snag on the barbie and celebrate being a real Aussie.
However, change is in the air and the locals won’t have a bar of it!
As the Australia Day Committee meets to discuss the big event, there are issues to sort and everyone wants a say – including the mayor, the Greens, the CWA and a disgruntled builder!
It’s great fun watching them trying to decide what an Aussie celebration should look like.
Nothing is sacred as the national identity in this thoroughly modern ripper of a comedy.
At their committee meeting on a freezing July night, the townsfolk have to sort out what sort of a celebration they want – and pandemonium breaks out as everyone has their own ideas about what their Australia Day party should look like.
