KATE Astorquia’s 35-hour a week dance training schedule has paid off with her successful audition for the Ballet Theatre of Queensland’s production of Cinderella.
Kate, of Thornlands, will take to the stage for the five-performance season at the Concert Hall in the Queensland Performing Arts Centre from January 19.
It is the first time the Cleveland District State High School year 10 student has been in a production of this kind.
The ballet marks the 80th year of the youth dance company.
Cinderella showcases the talent of 58 dancers aged 10 to 18 from as far afield as Hervey Bay and Kingscliff.
The production has two alternate casts performing over the season.
A student at Strictly Dance, Kate is passionate about dancing and thrilled to be part of the production.
“It is so exciting to perform in front of a big audience,” she said.
Not daunted by the challenge of juggling school and her intensive dance schedule, Kate said she managed to fit in everything because of her love of dance.
In addition to ballet, Kate enjoys jazz, contemporary and lyrical dance.
The BTQ production has required full-day rehearsals every Sunday for six months, in addition to her local five-day a week dance classes.
Artistic director Timothy Brown said the dancers had shown a dedication in the art of ballet beyond their years.
“It has been a joy and a privilege to be working with these talented young dancers,” he said.
The ballet is based on the Charles Perrault fairy tale and draws on the music of Prokofiev to tell the story of Cinderella, her wicked step-mother and step-sisters and the fairy godmother who makes her dreams come true.
Cinderella is on at 6.30pm on January 19, 1pm and 6.30pm on January 20 and 1pm and 6.30pm on January 21.
