IF you want to make a difference in the fight against cancer, all you need is a big heart, a pair of walking shoes and a bit of spare time.
After a successful 2016 Redland City Relay For Life, Cancer Council Queensland is calling for enthusiastic volunteers to come on board and help continue the event’s success.
The 2017 Redland City Relay For Life will be held on April 29 and 30 at Cleveland Showgrounds.
A volunteer organising committee is being formed to run the event, with a meeting to be held on Wednesday, January 26, at the Cleveland Sands Hotel.
Cancer Council Queensland spokesperson Katie Clift said: “If you’re passionate about cancer prevention, early detection, research and support, or are looking for a way to give back in the community – we would love to have you join us.
"Last year more than 280 community members came together to raise over $45,000 at Redland City Relay For Life.
“Volunteers are vital to the success of the event and enable us to continue investing in lifesaving research, and ultimately help beat cancer.
“We are looking for people with plenty of energy and enthusiasm to join the organising team and make our 2017 event another memorable one.
“Whether you can volunteer a lot of time, or just lend the occasional helping hand, we would love to have you on board.”
Relay For Life is an 18 hour event involving teams of up to 15 people keeping a baton moving in a relay-style walk or run overnight, in support of Queenslanders affected by cancer.
All funds raised support Cancer Council Queensland’s vital work in cancer research, education and patient support programs.
