FIFTY years to the day they started in year 1, former pupils of Wellington Point State School have held a reunion.
A bonus was for the group was that they met with their former year 1 teacher Dianne Yeo.
When the pupils stepped out to start school on January 23, 1967, their first teacher was Mrs Yeo, then known as Ms Hope.
To mark the 50 years, the group met in the school grounds for photographs and to share stories.
Former pupil Narelle Flatman said it was a bonus to get a visit from Mrs Yeo.
“For some of us it was the first time since leaving school to catch up with our first teacher,’’ she said.
Mrs Yeo also was a former student and then after two years of teachers college came back in 1967 to Wellington Point as a teacher.
She taught for five years at Wellington Point before leaving to start a family.
“From primary school we went on to Cleveland High a few to the inner city schools,’’ Ms Flatman said.
“Some have moved away but many of class of 1967 are still local and remain in touch and even have had their own children attend Wellington Point.
“Wellington Point State School was a country school and even today it has that same charm – a caring country school in the city.’’
In May this year Wellington Point State School will celebrate 130 years. The school is planning celebrations for the school community.
