A GROUP of Capalaba women will take part in a state-wide photographic project aimed at tackling ageism and sexism and encouraging older women to connect with others.
Older Women’s Network Capalaba branch convenor Naomi Jarvis said the project would also try to cut down on social isolation and encourage older women to form friendships.
“It will provide a means to achieving healthier and happier ageing among older women,’’ she said.
“The campaign will launch a series of images, including local Capalaba branch members, depicting the contributions of older women, the need for respect and acknowledgement of their experiences and concerns, as well as support for their needs in relation to healthy ageing.’’
The branch would hold its International Women’s Day event at the Uniting Church, Corner Ney Road and Zandra Street, Capalaba, on Wednesday, March 1, at 9am.
The event would be launched by Val French, a journalism pioneer in Queensland.
“She taught debating in schools, hosted a current affairs radio program ... and worked as a television reporter,’’ Ms Jarvis said.
