Vacuum excavation is the use of a high-powered water gun to blast impacted mud or clay into a slurry mixture then using the extended vacuum hose to suck the waste out of the hole or trench into the tank. 

The waste is then removed off site and the hole backfilled to leave a clean and tidy site.
