THE Redlands-Bayside Probus Club will celebrate its 30th year with an anniversary dinner on March 29 at the Cleveland Bowls Club.
Vice-president elect Phillip Horton said the club had begun a new phase, with membership now open to women as well as men, a change meant to refresh the organisation for the coming decades.
The club was founded on March 25, 1987 at the Uniting Church at Passage Street Cleveland.
“From the original founding members there will be two in attendance at the dinner,’’ he said.
The district already had three other Probus clubs in 1987, with strong membership, prompting the formation of Redlands-Bayside.
Minutes from the formation meeting at Cleveland show that the club name was chosen by members, with the other options being Raby Bay and Victoria Point.
Probus clubs are an offshoot of Rotary and previously membership was restricted to men.
