A WOMAN’S work is never done, at least for members of the Zonta Club of Wynnum Redland Inc.

Rather than sit back-and-relax to take pause as part of International Women’s Day celebrations, the group instead raised about $2500 at a dinner which marked the occasion.
The event was held at the Redlands Sporting Club earlier this month and attended by more than 100 guests, which included the club’s founding members and students and staff from Cleveland District State High School.
Club president Deb Kellie said while she did not yet know which groups would receive the money, previous bayside-based beneficiaries included Maybanke Accommodation and Crisis Services and Silky Oaks, the Redlands Centre for Women, female exchange students, programs to prevent domestic violence and more.
“The club raised just under $2500 on the evening, which will be applied to various initiatives both locally and internationally,” Ms Kellie said.
"Locally the club has supported important initiatives that help spread the message about women’s empowerment and the reduction of domestic violence in our community.”
Zonta has also helped to tackle women’s rights issues overseas through assistance provided to the United Nations.
Ms Kellie said the night’s guest speaker Joanne Verikios talked about her experiences to Be Bold for Change, which was the night’s theme.
“After 30 years as a career public service she (Ms Verikios) woke up one morning and decided to take charge of her own life, stop trading time for money, said goodbye to commuting and made the most productive change of her life,” Ms Kellie said.
Performers Mama JuJu & The Jam Tarts entertained the crowd as did guitarist Dylan Reavey.
