VICTORIA Point teenager Tiana-Jade Marshall hopes a job readiness program will be her first step towards employment in business administration.
On the last day of the two-week Ready 2 Work program, the 17-year-old said she had learned so much during a week of work experience with Redlands City Council.
One of Tiana-Jade’s roles was to talk to people about their ideas to improve the community.
Skilling Australia Foundation apprentice and trainee manager Craig Knight said the work experience followed a week in the classroom during which participants learned about writing a resume, interview preparation and increasing their earning potential.
Tiana-Jade said the training had built up her self-confidence.
“The theory helps so much when you get to the work experience,” she said.
The Ready 2 Work program was Tiana-Jade’s first step towards getting a job as a business administrator.
The former Victoria Point High School student said she had learnt about the work of a city council and the variety of jobs available.
“Hopefully I will be able to get a traineeship with council from January.
“I am hoping for a business administration role and will look for another job in the meantime,” Tiana-Jade said.
Mr Knight said the Westpac-funded job readiness program provided youth aged between 17 and 24 with resources, opportunities and support to gain a rewarding career.
