CONCERNS raised by residents that trucks are dumping liquid waste into Tarradarrapin Creek have been allayed by council, with vehicles at the site removing rather than discarding material.

Resident Keith Watson said he was concerned that dumping might be occurring at the creek, with trucks including fire engines running hoses into the waterway.
He said a hose also had been left at the creek.
A Redland City Council spokeswoman said pictures taken by the resident were of a council-controlled activity where a licensed contractor had been hired to collect wastewater from the closed landfill which was uphill at Judy Holt Park.
“Council has set-up a wastewater collection area at the northernmost end of the landfill site, towards Old Cleveland Road East,’’ she said.
“The best access point for collection into the trucks is to run hoses through the bush across the creek into the landfill site.
“In times with excess rainfall such as with recent weather events, multiple collections may be required. The hoses are left in place until the collection is finished.’’
The spokeswoman said council had done some interim clay capping repair works and larger repairs were planned to cut the generation of wastewater.
A fire drill had been conducted at the old landfill site but there was no reports of a fire engine using the creek.
“Should residents have concerns regarding activities at local waterways, we encourage them to contact council on 3829 8999 so these can be investigated,’’ she said.
