Two retired workmates who had played a Lotto syndicate for almost three decades have won a $1m division one prize.
The friends, who worked together in the television industry in Brisbane, formed a private syndicate in 1988 using numbers drawn from the birthdates and then ages of family members.
One of the men, neither of whom wanted to be identified, called the syndicate leader to confirm the ticket had been entered after realising their numbers had come up on Wednesday.
"He phoned me and said 'I'm going to be a bit firm with you. I want you to get the ticket out and tell me you've put our numbers on'," he explained.
"I told him I had and he said 'Look, I think we've won the major prize'."
The System 8 ticket, bought at a Nundah newsagency, brought them a total win of $1,005,098.65.
Supanews Nundah last sold a division one entry in April 2015, when a customer won $316,393.46 in Saturday Gold Lotto.
The six winning numbers in Wednesday's draw 19, 16, 35, 38, 4 and 11. The supplementary numbers were 39 and 1.
