A HARDWORKING dad from the bayside will upgrade his house and car and spend more time with his young family after winning more than $2.625 million in the Saturday Gold Lotto.
The happy winner said he had won a smaller top prize almost two decades ago.
His winning 36-game QuickPick entry was purchased online via the Lott – Australia’s official lotteries.
His entry was one of eight division one winners nationally, but the only Queensland winner, in Saturday’s $21 million Superdraw. Each won a division one prize of $2,625,000.
Speaking to a Golden Casket official on Monday morning to confirm his prize, the man admitted he could not believe his luck at winning division one in Gold Lotto twice.
“Thank you very much. That’s sensational,” he said.
“I happened to check my ticket yesterday morning and I couldn’t believe it. I had to get my wife to check it. I said ‘this doesn’t look right, there’s something not right here’.”
The man, who wants to remain anonymous, said he won division one many years ago and shared it with about 11 other winners so the prize was a lot less than this time around.
“But the odds of winning division one twice would be pretty slim I wouldn’t have thought,” he said.
The man couldn’t pinpoint what his secret to division one success was, but he said the win had come at a perfect time for his family.
“I did try my magic numbers for a few years and didn’t win, so I just went with QuickPicks and that’s done the trick both times now,” he said.
“This couldn’t have worked out at a better time. It’s been a bit of tough year for my family but this will sort us out for a quite a while now.
“We’ll be upgrading the house and the car for the family and I’ll be able to spend more time with my family.”
