The students got to see a recycling truck with some even hopping into the driver’s seat.
Along for the drive was Opposition leader Tim Nicholls, together with Redlands MP Matt McEachan and Cleveland MP Mark Robinson.
Redland District Special School principal Andrew Thompson said recycling was a strong focus at the school throughout the year.
Senior students pulled apart old computer towers and sorted different kinds of parts for collection.
“It is a practical activity for the students to do,” Mr Thompson said.
The principal said it helped students in different ways, including teaching them to focus on one task.
Mr Nicholls said the LNP promoted a container deposit scheme policy and a ban on single-use plastic bags.
He said this would be positive for marine life in Moreton Bay and the creeks around Redlands.
Redlands District Special School took part in a cash for containers initiative trialled at local schools by Mr McEachan last year.
The school, with Mount Cotton and Russell Island state schools, were among the highest collectors in the Recycle for Redlands initiative.
The program raised awareness about litter and enabled schools to earn money.
Anyone who can donate computer towers to the school for dismantling, can contact the school on 3488 6333.
