RUSSELL Island State School students have hosted special guests at a ceremony to bury the school’s 100th anniversary time capsule.
The director-general of education Dr Jim Watterston, south-east regional director John Norfolk and assistant regional director Brian Ragh were among the guests.
The event also recognised the Cool the School project of the Russell Island State School P&C Association which raised about $28,000 for air conditioners.
Past students Janet Jenner and Thomas Wickstead joined in the celebration.
Mrs Jenner’s grandfather was on the school’s first committee in 1916.
Her involvement at the school has continued as she co-ordinates the religious instruction program and is a member of the P&C.
Mr Wickstead is the parent of a prep student and the president of the P&C.
Guests were also treated to a tour of Russell Island by Rural Fire Brigade volunteer and school groundsman Larry Hoffman.
