Entering your baby in a Redland baby competition may soon become a reality with principal of Powerhouse Dance Studios at Cleveland Krystle Carter-Holt looking to start one.
Ms Carter-Holt said she felt a local baby competition was missing from the Redland calendar and believed this area the ideal location. She hopes to run the competition by August.
“We plan for this to be a huge event, honouring our littlest community members and giving their parents the opportunity to show them off and be in the running for some awesome prizes. In the tradition of baby competitions, we would also like to donate 20 per cent of the proceeds to a major charity,” she said.
Ms Carter-Holt said she hoped to involve local businesses to bring this event to life.
“This will allow everyone to profit and increase their exposure in the community. We are open to ideas, but here a few things we’re thinking that businesses could donate prizes for category winners and runners up, become an event sponsor to cover event costs or donate event space of equipment,” she said.
“All businesses who donate prizes or become event sponsors will be included in advertising for the event on posters, Facebook and at the event itself. They will also have the opportunity to join our judging panels.”
Ms Carer-Holt said that with 120 students at the dance studio, she was involved in community activities.
“Our dance school engages in many local activities, including performances at school fetes, and sports and fitness initiatives. Many of our students enjoyed participating in baby competitions in previous years, but presently there are no such events occurring in the Redlands, or even in Brisbane or on the Coasts. We believe there is a definite opportunity for a new baby competition,” she said.
