Damian plays a lead in the Australian independent feature film, alongside Georgia Chara (Wentworth), Michael Budd (The Matrix Reloaded) and Holly Brisley (Home and Away).
Written by Liam Barrett and Michael Budd, Life of the Party is a humorous coming-of-age comedy drama about three friends approaching their mid-thirties who decide to prolong their carefree youthfulness by breaking the world record for the longest house party.
The Premier was held at New Farm Cinemas on July 7 and well attended by a Macleay Island contingent.
Damian grew up in Brisbane and credits much of his motivation towards acting to his early Brisbane experiences.
“My first major role was with Queensland Musical Theatre playing the Artful Dodger in Oliver when I was 13, and I then became involved with various film-making projects.”
He graduated in Screen Production from Griffith University and later gained a scholarship to study at London’s prestigious East 15 Acting School. After working on stage in London for a period he moved to Sydney to work in theatre and film, with roles in feature films including Battle Ground (2013), The Half Dead (2014) and the online TV series The Casuals (2014).
About three years ago Damian moved to Los Angeles after obtaining a Green Card enabling him to work in the United States.
Among his significant performances there, Damian originated the role of Ian in the play Bridget and Ian which won the People’s Choice award at the 2016 Hollywood Short and Sweet Festival. Other theatre work included the role of Ruben in the critically-acclaimed production of Ruben Guthrie for the Los Angeles-based Australian Theatre Company.
Damian also recently attended the Cannes Film Festival to promote the film Postcolonial Nostalgia, which examines the effects of PTSD on military families.
After the high-octane activity of working to establish himself in Los Angeles, Damian says he always enjoyed spending time on Macleay Island relaxing and re-energising.
“Since my parents moved to Macleay, I’ve valued the opportunity to visit and enjoy the fresh air, the peacefulness and the laid-back atmosphere. I also find it a great place for jogging to keep up my exercise routine.
Later this year, another launch will be held in Sydney, where the film was shot.
