MOTIVATED by family and friends who have struggled with mental illness, Anytime Fitness Capalaba manager Ryan Moore is garnering support for a 24-hour treadmill challenge.
Mr Moore said he had friends who died by suicide and knew of others who had tried to take their own life.
“I decided it was time that I put my hand up to do something for a worthy everyday cause,” he said.
“I am very passionate about raising awareness of suicide prevention.
“It is very close to home for me.”
Mr Moore said the gym would, through the event, share details of resources for people struggling with mental illness.
About 300 Anytime Fitness clubs nationwide would take part.
Mr Moore said he hoped at least two treadmills at the Capalaba gym would run for 24 hours.
He is calling on people to schedule themselves to walk or run during the 15-minute slots, at a cost of $15 each, from 6pm on July 28.
Businesses were also donating food and lucky door prizes and sponsoring staff to take part.
All money raised goes to Suicide Prevention Australia.
