VIENNA Woods State School’s hall was transformed into a science factory as part of National Science Week celebrations.
Hands-on activities, including robotic play, plate spinning, microscope fun, virtual reality goggle trials and more, were all enjoyed.
Principal Jacqueline Fiedler said the day’s theme, Future Earth, encouraged children to think about renewable energies and understand more about the use of fossil fuels.
She said children not only enjoyed the science factory, but also learned more about electricity production in workshops delivered with the help of Alexandra Hills State High School students.
While early years students made fossil replicas, older students burnt corn chips to make energy.
Ms Fiedler said the whole-of-school learning experience, funded by mining company Orica through auspice organisation The Smith Family, was enjoyed by all.
“The generous support from Orica through their partnership with The Smith Family has enabled us to provide a fabulous experience for all our students to celebrate science week,”she said.
“Our students are so excited and have engaged in hands-on scientific activities, exploring, inquiring, investigating, predicting and experimenting with the aid of the science factory.”
Vienna Woods State School is at 12 Heffernan Road, Alexandra Hills.
