The Turnbull Government will provide $300,000 through the Tourism Demand Driver Infrastructure program to build a timber boardwalk on the existing track between Snapper Street and the Gorge Walk Trailhead.
A further $309,355 will be provided by Redland City Council for the project.
The Tourism Demand Driver Infrastructure program aims to drive demand, improve the quality of tourist attractions and increase tourism expenditure to assist the industry in meeting its Tourism 2020 targets.
Bowman MP Andrew Laming said the project would add to the already impressive facilities on the island.
“There will be viewing areas and rest stops, way-finding and interpretive signage installed along the walk,” he said.
“The Brisbane tourism region experienced growth in visitor numbers, nights and expenditure in both the domestic overnight and international visitor sectors in the year ending March 2017.
“In this period, the region welcomed over 7.4 million visitors who contributed more than $5.8 billion to the economy.”
The Tourism Demand Driver Infrastructure programme will invest $43.1 million over four years, including $7.9 million in Queensland.
