ST Vinnies wants people to ditch department stores and step out of their shopping comfort zone to wear op shop gear.
The St Vincent de Paul Society has launched gift cards for their Queensland shops.
Op-shop aficionados and bargain hunters can give the gift of thrift to friends and loved ones, with gift cards available now in any denomination.
The cards were launched as part of National Op Shop Week which ends on September 2.
St Vinnies Cleveland and Victoria Point shop manager Jenny Barnett said they were expecting the cards to be popular.
There are so many people in our community who love op-shopping and we think a Vinnies gift card is the perfect present for them – the gift of thrift,” Ms Barnett said.
Vinnies has 145 shops around Queensland, from Cooktown in the north to Tugun near the NSW border.
They sell items including women’s, men’s and children’s clothing, books, home wares and furniture.
Rachel Devine of Vinnies Capalaba said people could find treasures in op shops.
“Second hand really doesn’t have to mean second best,” she said.
“From designer fashion, to books and entertainment to beautiful homewares, you never know what you’ll find.”
Vinnies is run by 10,000 plus volunteers, who last year gave more than 1.5 million hours.
Funds raised are put back into the local community, with more than 265,000 Queenslanders – 1 in 18 – helped by St Vincent de Paul Society Queensland in the past year.
Vinnies Capalaba, Cleveland and Victoria Point are looking for volunteers. Anyone interested can drop into the shop.
