The couple held one of the four division one winning entries in draw 3773, taking home $1,011,836.63.
The couple, who wish to remain anonymous, said they had had a run of good luck, having also recently won a raffle.
They bought their ticket from News Worx at Victoria Point.
News Worx staff member Sue Matt said she was ecstatic one of her customers had won.
“It’s great. We’ve been getting a vibe lately that we were going to have a win,” she said.
“It’s been just over two years since we sold the last division one winning entry and we’ve had customers asking when we were going to sell another one.
“...We’re really excited for the couple.”
The pair had no hint of their good fortune until a Golden Casket official rang them.
“What? What? Oh, you’re kidding me,” the woman said.
Amid the excitement she ran away from the phone to scream and shout, leaving her husband to continue the conversation.
“The wife’s telling the whole street. She’s saying she’s won a million. This is unreal,” he said.
The couple plan to share their windfall with their family.
Thursday’s Powerball draw has $50 million up for grabs.
