Freedom Aged Care Redland Bay has joined forces with PA Research Foundation breast cancer fundraising initiative ‘Project Pink’ to help take revenge on the disease that affects so many Australian families.
This month (October is (national breast cancer awareness month), Freedom Aged Care Redland Bay will be fundraising and raising awareness for breast cancer.
The money raised through Project Pink is helping to support life-saving breast cancer research at the PA Hospital Campus, home of the world’s first cancer vaccine.
Freedom Aged Care Redland Bay is one of many Aveo communities fundraising for Project Pink nationwide. This is the Aveo Group’s second year of fundraising for Project Pink. More than $80,000 was raised last year for critical breast cancer research.
“Our Aveo communities are united by the cause and this year Aveo Group will be matching dollar for dollar on all funds raised by our residents and staff so we will surpass upon the successful fundraising of 2016,” Aveo CEO Geoff Grady said.
Freedom Aged Care Redland Bay hosted a Pink Pancake Morning Tea on October 12 and is selling raffle tickets for a pink handmade doll made by resident Margaret Pittaway. The community hopes to raise more than $500 during this month.
Home Care Community Manager at Freedom AVEO Kylie Christison said the support from both staff and residents during the month-long promotion of “Project Pink” was “unbelievable”.
“The community has come together to raise not only financial funds but awareness regarding the need to support Breast cancer Research,” she said.
Project Pink Spokesperson Chief Operating Officer Simone Plunkett said staff at the PA Research Foundation were excited about the continued partnership with the Aveo Group.
In 2017, it is estimated that 3,087 Australian women will lose their battle with breast cancer – that’s eight women every day, making it the second most common cause of cancer-related death for Australian women.
“This horrible disease has been associated with the colour pink for too long and we have decided enough is enough. Project Pink is about bringing the community together to beat breast cancer and make pink just a pretty colour again,” said Simone.
