SKIN mapping will be performed by general practitioners with a special interest in skin cancer at the ultra modern Aqua Marine Medical Centre and Skin Clinic, which opened on Monday.
Marina Rotert, a general practitioner who specialises in dermatology and skin care, said the centre’s detection technique for skin cancers could help to diagnose early stages of melanomas and non-melanoma cancers, as well as avoid unnecessary surgical interventions of non cancerous skin lesions.
“A detailed and thorough screening of your body will help us detect any melanomas and diagnose other conditions that may be treated other than excision,” Dr Rotert said.
The Russian-born doctor will be joined at the clinic by Damian Cornelius, whose special interests are in skin cancer medicine, men’s health, and sports-musculo-skeletal medicine, apart from family medicine.
The practice will expand to include a total of four-five doctors next year, Dr Rotert said.
Her husband Gotthard Rotert is the managing director of the practice.
“As well as consulting rooms, our centre has a large treatment room with three beds, cosmetic and skin-care room and nurse station,” Dr Rotert said.
“Our registered nurses have qualifications in midwifery and cosmetic medicine that will help to accommodate people with skin problems, pregnant women and supports lactation and all postnatal conditions.”
