Our part in making the yes vote a real thing isn’t over either and there are things you can do to make it happen.
The voluntary postal survey is not a binding mechanism with the effect of altering the Marriage Act. Now its up to our 226 MPs to amend the Marriage Act to allow same-sex couples to marry.
While the decision may be in the MPs hands, we have a role to play in helping them reach a decision.
So, if you want to see same sex marriage become real then write to your MP now.
You can find out who they are with this helpful widget on the Australian Marriage Equality website which also tells you if they are a supporter.
The same widget also tells you who your Federal Senators are. Helpfully the site provides email and phone numbers so you can contact them all to tell them your views.
The Australian Marriage Equality website has also pulled together some words to help you if you don’t know what to say to your MP.
We’ve come this far, lets make sure our vote goes the distance.
