BASTIEN Ward was supposed to arrive on Christmas Day but held off, instead waking his mum at two minutes to midnight on New Year’s Eve.
The Mount Cotton boy, born at 10.09am on January 1, was later than expected but still made good time – he beat the birth of another baby to become Redland Hospital’s first delivery for 2018.
Mum Charlotte Ward said Bastien’s delayed arrival had allowed her and husband Glenn Ward to take a photo at Cleveland Point during sunrise.

The pair had driven to Redland Hospital about 3am after Mrs Ward went into labour but were told their son was not yet ready.
He was delivered after the pair returned to hospital, following a short detour back home by the couple for rest.
Dad Glenn Ward said his son’s delivery had been thrilling to watch. “I was incredibly nervous and I felt like I had to get out of the room,” he said. “It an amazing, terrifying experience.”
Mrs Ward thanked the professionalism of Redland Hospital staff.
“The midwifes and doctors were amazing,” she said.
