A DRIVER has caused $3000 damage to turf at a Cleveland sporting field after hooning there in sodden conditions.
It is understood the car was driven into Henry Ziegenfusz Park overnight on Saturday through space between signage and a bollard along Fitzroy Street.
Police are investigating the incident and witnesses are encouraged to contact Policelink on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 to report details.
The wheel tracks have caused headaches ahead of the hockey season, with work needed to level out the playing field.
A Redland City Council spokesman said affected areas would need to be rolled and top dressed.
Some patches may need to be re-turfed.
He said while the damage was superficial, repairs could not begin until the grounds had dried out.
“Due to the moisture levels of the fields from recent rains, remediation works will not be possible until they dry out,” he said.
“This could be as late as next week.
Redlands Hockey Association president Sharon Collins said she hoped the field would be fixed in time for the hockey season.
She said she and other club members were disappointed at the recklessness shown by the driver.
“We need a smooth surface to play hockey on but these donuts have gouged out field,” she said.
Cleveland Thornlands Cricket Club groundsman Quentin Thomson said he believed the car used may have been a four-wheel drive.
Redland City Council have since installed another bollard to prevent further illegal car entries into the park.
