COUNCIL is starting work on Raby Bay Harbour lighting and replacement of boardwalk timbers along one of Redlands most popular eating out areas.
Work on the landmark will be completed in two to three weeks, weather permitting.
Debbie Swain of Wellington Point said the eating-out area was so dim due to lights being out that the boardwalk area could not be enjoyed in safety.
“The trees at the harbour side in front of the eateries need to be lighted and the current lights set in the elevated gardens all need to be working,” Ms Swain said.
“If someone did fall in the water – good luck in seeing them.”
A Redland City Council spokesperson said council had responsibility for the Raby Bay Harbour park, boardwalk, hand rails and floating pontoon.
Eight months ago it also took responsibility for the maintenance of garden beds and associated lighting, after realising the area was in need of a face lift.
“Repairs have been quoted and approvals given for lighting repair works to commence this week and are expected to be completed within two to three weeks, weather permitting and subject to parts availability,” she said.
“The light system in the garden beds is problematic, with sporadic light outages causing council to implement regular night audits to complement the annual maintenance and repair program for both lighting and the boardwalk.”
She said a timber replacement program was also planned for the boardwalk and would start at the end of the month, weather permitting.
“Council is planning for upgrades to lighting across the city and is considering new lighting technologies that may provide better reliability and return on investment,” she said.
