New operators Laura Scurr and John Horton began trading on January 17 and have been warmly welcomed by Coochiemudlo Island locals and visitors.

Laura has qualifications in accountancy.

She also operates a business solutions business in Toowoomba with great success.

Energetic Laura – who suffers with has cerebral palsy – is also  prominent in the disability services field and serves on a number of related boards.

Business partner John Horton is a Coochie resident and local electrical contractor.

Laura sees the Red Rock Cafe near the jetty – the island’s main meeting point – as an exciting challenge and plans are in hand to expand the cafe’s wine list and revamp the breakfast and lunch menus.

Along with current staff members Melissa and Trina, the Red Rock is singing along happily into the year.
