AGED care residents have helped the Redlands Floral Art Club recover after losing property when the Scout hall at Ormiston was destroyed by fire last month.
Club president Val Decker said Nandeebie Blue Care Village resident Lynette Mercer was behind the efforts that had helped raise $600 for fabric for floral displays.
“With floral art you need a good backing for the flowers,” Ms Decker said.
She said Ms Mercer had contacted all the residents in the village asking them to buy a metre or two of fabric.
“The residents raised enough money for 60 metres of fabric for our floral displays.
“This donation has made a huge impact on our club by boosting the morale of our members and helping to rebuild the club.”
The club kept their property, including donated books, at the hall which burned down on March 11.
Ms Decker said they appreciated the pensioners digging deep in their pockets to raise money for the club.
“We have a member who is 90 years old, another who’s 88. They love picking flowers and come to our meetings.”
With the club providing value to members, Ms Decker said it was important for them to continue.
“This is a huge step in the right direction for us.
“This donation enables us to help others in the community because we don’t have to spend our money on the fabric.”
