REDLANDS Volunteer Branch of Cancer Council Queensland have invited locals to spoil their mums at a special morning tea on Wednesday, May 9.
The annual Mother’s Day event is part of Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea fundraiser.
The tea will be held at Renaissance Retirement Living at 36 Bunker Road, Victoria Point from 9.30am to midday.
Branch president Tish Henderson said the annual tea was the perfect early Mother’s Day celebration.
“Throughout the morning there will be market stalls, raffles, live music and more,” she said.
Tickets are $30 each and all proceeds go to Cancer Council Queensland.
Tickets must be pre-purchased by phoning Heather on 3286 1803 or Tish on 0407 587 096 by Friday, May 4.
Cancer Council Queensland is celebrating 25 years of Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea this year, with more than 5000 events expected to be held across the state.
The official day to host is Thursday, May 24 but teas can be held in April, May or June.
Cancer Council Queensland chief executive Chris McMillan called on locals to tea-up for the cause.
“Over the past 25 years in Queensland, $31.2 million has been raised by like-minded individuals hosting a morning tea to make a difference – and we hope that continues,” Ms McMillan said.
“We’re calling on people to get involved by hosting or attending an event. Simply gather your closest friends and family, set a date, raise funds, and enjoy a cuppa together.
“One Queenslander is diagnosed with cancer every 20 minutes – the length of an average morning tea break – but with the help of dedicated people, like the members of our Redlands Branch, we can ensure those diagnosed are supported every minute, every hour, every day.”
