ON Saturday the Redlands Muddies Rugby Union Team played at home against Pine Rivers looking to keep their unbeaten record alive.
As expected Pine Rivers had a size advantage when they took to the field.
The coaching staff urged the players to stick to the game plan of getting quick ball to our outside backs and to attempt to run the Pine Rivers team down.
From the kick off it became a forwards dominating game with the larger Pine Rivers team attempting to break through the Redlands defensive line.
With one off running from the breakdown Pine River went ahead with a converted try. Redlands continue to withstand this pressure with some physical attacks of their own and with some superb backline play George Habib went over for the first of the Redlands converted tries.
With 10 minutes to go the score stood at 14-12 in Redlands favour. An exceptional run by Rocky Rogers got the ball downfield to the Pine Rivers line and it was left to Ryan Barrett to dive over and secure the hard fought win 21-12 in Redlands favour.
The coaching staff were impressed with the commitment of the forwards to with stand the pressure from Pine Rivers but the deviation from the game plan mid game was a concern.
Next week the Redlands travel to Ipswich which will be another tough encounter.
