WORKSHOPS for women who have experienced or are at risk of domestic or family violence will be held at Cleveland and Wynnum in May.
The workshops are facilitated by Kate Costigan, social worker and co-ordinator of the Wynnum Manly Community Centre, which provides counselling, education and support.
Dr Costigan said the workshops were focused on exploring creativity and celebrating resilience.
“The workshops explain domestic and family violence, including elder abuse, and provide service information, resources and information on healthy relationships.
“This is followed by creative celebration of the women, their strengths and abilities,” Dr Costigan said.
“The workshops are informed by my practice-based PhD and I have facilitated them in a range of contexts including Indigenous communities.”
They are free for healthcare card holders. A donation is requested from wage earners.
The workshop at Redlands Centre for Women, Cleveland will be on Friday, May 18 from 9.30am to 2.30pm.
The workshop at Wynnum Community Centre will be on Wednesday, May 23 from 9.30am to 2.30pm.
