VOLUNTEERS from Coast Guard Redland Bay travelled on their vessel from Weinam Creek to Macleay Island to attend the Anzac Day dawn service.
It is the second year in a row the Coast Guard volunteers have attended.
Commander Jason Boon, who was accompanied by seven volunteer members, laid a wreath at the service on behalf of group known as QF7.
Of the eight volunteers, four are veterans and one wore her late father’s medals.
The vessel CG71 stood off Pat’s Park in the twilight during the commemoration.
Flotilla administration officer Lynn Neven said shortly after the service they received a request for help from a boatie who had broken down at Peel Island.
“CG71 proceeded to the share at Pat’s Park to retrieve Commander Boon and then proceeded to assist the boatie,” she said.
“Even on such an important day such as ANAZC, the work of the Coast Guard is never ending.”
