COOCHIEMUDLO Island’s Surf Life Saving Club’s Summer Surf Girl Chloe McGrath hosted the city’s emergency services at a fun day on Saturday.
It was the last event for Ms McGrath’s season of being involved in the competition which has boosted the club’s profile and cash flow.
Ms McGrath, a member of the island club since 2008, and 10 other competitors will be judged on their skills relating to water rescues, speech delivery and team work for the Summer Surf Girl contest.
Ms McGrath was a nipper at the club before achieving her Surf Rescue Certificate and other awards. She has various emergency care qualifications, has achieved patrol captain status and has competed in the Aussies event for first aid.
The club’s Chris McGrath said education was an important aspect of the contest.
Saturday’s event aimed to showcase emergency services in the Redlands. The event was held at the Raby Bay marina.
Attendees included Queensland Fire and Emergency Services, Water Police from Redland Bay and Brisbane, Queensland Ambulance Services, State Emergency Services Redland Bay, PCYC Emergency Services Cadets and Surf Life Saving Queensland.
