ORGANISERS of Redlands Relay for Life are calling on businesses to help paint Cleveland purple in support of Cancer Council Queensland.
Stores and cafe in the Cleveland CBD are set to deck out their businesses with purple decorations this week to encourage locals to register for Relay for Life.
Held on May 19 and 20, Relay for Life is an 18-hour event where teams keep a baton moving in a relay-style walk or run overnight to raise funds and support for Queenslanders affected by cancer.
Redlands City Relay For Life chairman John Simpson said Paint the Town Purple was the perfect opportunity for locals to show their support for the event.
“We’ll be handing out purple decoration packs to businesses to help them get into the purple spirit and raise awareness of Relay For Life,” he said.
“We’re expecting the streets to turn a bright shade of purple from Tuesday until Friday this week.
“Each year so many local businesses support the cause, including the Redlands Meat Hall who dress up their signature cow in a Relay For Life shirt.”
Relay for Life will be held at Redlands Showgrounds.
Cancer Council Queensland chief executive Chris McMillan said getting involved with Relay For Life was a great way to support the organisation.
“Relay For Life is one event you don’t want to miss this year,” Ms McMillan said.
“It’s an inspiring time as teams take part in ceremonies and fundraising activities, support each other and share stories of hope.
“No matter your age, or fitness level, you can get involved and make a difference.”
