POLICE believe a fire which engulfed a Capalaba home overnight may have been lit deliberately.
Emergency services were called to the Mount Cotton Road address about 11.30pm on Wednesday night after reports of a burning house were received.
A Queensland Police Service spokesperson said the dwelling was unoccupied at the time.
“On arrival, the house was found engulfed in flames but emergency crews were able to extinguish the blaze,” the spokesperson said.
Four fire crew battled the blaze until early today after checking inside for people on arrival.
Their efforts were not enough to stop the single-storey building from being extensively damaged.
The police spokesperson said specialist officers would be on site today to investigate the cause of the blaze.
“Investigations into the cause are continuing, but it is believed to be suspicious at this stage,” the spokesperson said.
