Hundreds of cups of tea have boosted the fund raising efforts of the Redland branch of Cancer Council Queensland towards its annual target.

The branch hosted its annual two Biggest Morning Teas with about 150 attending the first held at Renaissance, Victoria Point on May 9 and a further 130 at the Courthouse Restaurant, Cleveland on May 24.
Branch secretary Pam Tranter said the two morning teas raised more than $9000 with $3900 raised at The Courthouse event.
“They are both fantastic events but the real winners here are the people battling cancer. These morning teas benefit the research and treatments of people with this dreadful condition,” she said.
The Renaissance morning tea included raffles and entertainment by Andrew Carins.
Guest speaker was CEO of Cancer Council Queensland, Chris McMillan.
Guest speaker at The Courthouse, was Betty Kenny who spoke about laughter yoga and invited patrons to have a go, adding some light relief to what is otherwise a serious topic.
This is the 20th anniversary of this event held at The Courthouse.
“These events help us enormously to raise the necessary funds for research and cures. And we couldn’t do it without this being a community sponsored event,” Ms Tranter said.
Last year, the branch was the State’s largest annual fund raiser, raising $105,422.
The branch also won in 2015, but was was pipped at the post to win in 2016 by just $1000.
“We hope we can stay fund raising at this level into the future,” Ms Tranter said.
Other events include the Relay for Life and an upcoming Titanic dinner, to be staged at the Victoria Point Sharks Sporting Club from 6pm on June 15.
This evening features a six-course dinner, with tickets at $105 for first class and $95 for second class.

The Thornlands Junior Youth group and neighbourhood children classes is hosting its own biggest morning tea this time, eld in the afternoon at the Thornlands Dance Palais, Redland Bay Road, Thornlands from 3.30pm on June 3.
Cost to the tea is a $5 donation.

Ms Tranter said she was grateful to all the organisations and groups which hosted their own Biggest Morning Teas to fund raise for Cancer Council Queensland.
“Lots of Australia’s Biggest Morning Teas are happening around the Redlands which is fabulous,” she said.
